As the world economy continues to flounder and the amount of available money for the average household to earn seems to become smaller and smaller it begins to make more and more practical sense to start saving money wherever you can. And making clothes to save money can be a great way to start.
A huge amount of clothing is thrown away every year as people clean out their closets and get rid of anything they no longer like, want or fit. The vast majority of the clothing has nothing wrong with it. Before throwing it away why not give some thought to restyling it into someone that someone else in the family might be able to wear?
With a growing market of mass produced clothing it seems to be getting harder and harder to find things that allow you to stamp your own individual personality on the world. Material in comparison is still reasonably priced and these days comes in such a wide range of colors and styles that you can create any number of beautiful one off pieces that can reflect you.
If you are a reasonably capable dressmaker, it is probably safe to say that you would be considerably proud of the garments that you make. Being proud of something you have made with your own hands is certainly a major factor in inspiring you wearing something more than once. Having garments that you are going to actually wear make up your wardrobe may potentially save you from buying clothes that you never end up wearing.
There are so many cute baby clothes available on the market that before you know it you have amassed a sizable wardrobe for the wee one. Give a thought though to the fact that because babies grow so fast they never do get the wear out of the clothes that you buy them. A viable alternative is to give making as many of your babies clothes as you can and save yourself a reasonable sizable amount of money.
Children grow just as quickly it seems these days as the price tags on the clothes they need to wear. Sometimes it seems to be a constant war to keep up with their never ending need for clothes. By taking a basic wardrobe and then expanding on it with items of clothing that have been handmade we might just start winning the war to keep them dressed.
In Conclusion
Hats. Gloves. Scarves. Almost everybody uses them and yet they seem to have become a disposable accessory. Yet these types of things are very simple to make and do not need large amounts of wool to do so. Wool is available in such a huge range of colors and textures that it is possible to make fashionable and yet individualized accessories for everyone in the family.
