Types Of Indoor Lighting To Use In A Remodeling Project

Posted on August 8th, 2009

The lighting you cast in each room will have the biggest effect of all on how the room feels once you enter it. Depending on what kind of effect you are going for, one lighting method over another can achieve every type of emotion and sense of awe you can think of.

Contrast is largely overlooked in lighting fixtures. A room would look a lot more personalized with contrast as opposed to a room that only has a uniform lighting plan. While there isn’t really anything wrong with uniform lighting, as it is very practical, it also has an extreme lack of personalization that comes with other light fixtures. Experiment with the thought at least before installing your fixtures.

The main lighting in your room should be supplemented with secondary lighting. Secondary lighting is needed to accent the main lighting for places it doesn’t cover too well. Secondary lighting is also necessary for contrasted rooms that don’t have the abundance of light that a uniform lighting plan would have. This too will take some experimentation.

Rooms are not constructed entirely of the most stable of materials. Drywall, while strong, can only hold up so much weight before it breaks. And as homes are constructed with large amounts of drywall accompanied by several supports here and there, you will have to do a certain amount of research to verify that your light fixtures are plausible. If not, there are solutions such as adding the supports yourself, but this will be a messy procedure.

Lighting comes in two forms: energy efficient and then the energy wasters. Lighting that takes more energy is still used today because they are usually more flexible in the lighting that they provide. Energy efficient lights are usually less flexible and hard to get a good contrast with. Despite this fact, you should make an effort to use energy efficient lights when you can. After all, saving money is always something that a home owner is interested in.

If you are looking for a unique type of lighting, consider looking away from electric lighting. Fire-based lighting, such as a candle or two, can accent a primary light source with interesting tones. Candle lights are best used for a special occasion, since they will be more costly to run than an electric light source. You may also consider lamps that burn oil, but observe extreme caution in using them for they are a fire hazard.

In Conclusion

You can make your home renovation quite fun- just take it easy and go through all of the motions one step at a time. In time you will eventually come to the end of the project, and be truly impressed of how much impact a light source can really have on your changes or additions.
