There are so many reasons to rejoice in using LED lighting for your indoor plants. Indoor gardening hobbyists who aren’t already making use of LED lighting will be surprised to learn that their current tactics of lighting their indoor plants are probably horribly outdated.
LED lights are necessary for photosynthesis- a process that requires light such as the light received from the Sun. Normal lighting may not always do the job, and specific colors of LED light will be required depending on your plant and its current maturity. It is sometimes necessary to change LED lighting according to how old the plant is.
LED lights will not emit a lot of heat, unlike other types of lighting. For that reason you will want to find another means of finding heat for your plants if the room is not properly heated. A heater usually works best, but you can also supplement a heater with normal lighting, better insulation, and other techniques that hydroponics experts will be able to share with you.
You can easily over water your plants while using LED lighting. This is because the lack of heat previously mentioned. Without the excess heat, water does not evaporate as quickly. It will, thus, be collected in the soil a greater length of time and potentially damage the plant. Typically you should give the plant a bit less water than you normally would, but monitor the water intake so you can quickly customize your watering procedures.
In an enclosed room you run the risk of suffocating your plant. It’s known that plants do give off a good deal of oxygen- but they also need oxygen for cell respiration. And since an LED will give off carbon dioxide, the CO2 levels in the indoor atmosphere can reach a critical level. Proper ventilation will need to be installed if you want to keep your plants healthy. There are meters available that can tell you just how much CO2 is in the air, and whether there is cause to worry or not.
The light level of an LED is considerably less than what you and I are probably accustomed to. While it would make for bad eye sight, plants are just fine in a lower light level. Plants only need a specific aspect of the light, and can do fine in low-brightness environments. Even still, you may wish to install secondary lighting so that you can see better if your current LED equipment doesn’t leave you satisfied.
In Conclusion
Gardening is so much easier when you have the power of the LED on hand. Look at gardening manuals that reference LED hydroponics to get more familiar with the basics. Such manuals will also steer you clear of common mistakes that will keep you safe from harm when first starting out.
