Get A Career

Posted on August 13th, 2008

Jobs today are often temporary or low paying enough to where anyone with a high school education could do them. If something better is desired, consumers are strongly recommended to do the most they can to get a better career. Doing so isn’t impossible- but it will of course take a lot of hard work and determination.

Most would think that building a perfect resume and sending it to the employer would be the first step- but it’s actually the second! The first step into landing a good career is to have plenty of educational credentials, references, and if possible an internship or some form of work experience. Only after all of these things are obtained should one fill out a resume- otherwise it will be left bare.

When building a resume, hopeful employees should remember that they shouldn’t be telling employers their life story. The resume should be clear, precise, and directly to the point. The only part that should be exaggerated is the work experience or reasons for qualifications in the job being wanted. The general rule is to keep the resume around a page or so- not too much and not too little.

If you are so lucky as to obtain a call from an employer after they have reviewed your application for hire, your odds at success are getting bigger. Don’t get hasty, because the interview is where most will fail in the operation. Dress sophisticated- not casually. Also consider reviewing psychology, practicing interview questions, and visiting a therapist for more advice in being outgoing.

An employment agency should be the next stop if one doesn’t seem to be getting it right. If you’ve failed multiple times and need a hand, an employment agency will be able to give some advice on what you’re doing wrong. They can also give leads to jobs that employers consult them with. Either way, an employment agency is a valuable tool for the unemployed.

Above all else- keep in mind first impressions are going to determine how someone feels about you. Read your resume and see if you’d hire yourself- if you wouldn’t, find some way to improve to make your resume more appealing. And as for the interview, always remember to show up well dressed. If it’s a hot day, still consider wearing slacks and dress shoes to make the impressions.
